Frequently asked questions
Which iPhones does SubLive support?
SubLive requires iOS 26 or later on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or 17 model. On-device speech recognition needs the memory and Neural Engine of these devices.
Does SubLive need an internet connection?
No. Speech recognition and translation run on your iPhone. You only need a connection to download a video from a link, or when iOS downloads a language model for the first time.
Which languages are supported?
Speech recognition supports 40 language variants, including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, and German. Translation languages depend on what Apple's Translation framework offers on your iPhone. The app interface is available in 21 languages.
The subtitles miss words or show wrong words. What can I do?
Make sure the source language matches the video. Try a different recognition sensitivity in Settings: a stricter level shows fewer but more reliable words, and a looser level shows more words. You can also edit any subtitle line by hand.
Translation is not working.
The first time you use a language pair, iOS may ask to download a translation model. Connect to the internet, allow the download, and try again. You can manage these models in Settings → Apps → Translate → Downloaded Languages.
How do I save subtitles?
Use the export option to save an SRT file with the original subtitles or with both the original and the translation. You can also import existing SRT or VTT files.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your videos, audio, and subtitles stay on your iPhone. See the privacy policy for details.
